ABOUT

JENI
MATTHEWMAN

Holistic Therapist &
Storyteller

Jeni creates spaces for curiosity, exploration, and for diving deeply into the mysterious and endlessly wonderful world of body, breath, story, myth and magic.

The essence of her work is to empower people to come back into right relationship with themselves, with others, and with the world around them.

Jeni lives and works on the edge of the wildscape of Dartmoor in Devon, England. Her deep and abiding passions have been shaped by her experience of growing up in a household with domestic abuse, which drew her to seek comfort and solace in stories and fairytales at an early age.

She went on to study English Language and Literature at Leeds University, specialising in folklore, fairytale and myth. This was followed by a twenty year career shaping strategic communications and stories for social care, mental health and international development organisations.

Having lived a lifetime in her head and immersed in books and stories, it was venturing into the world of somatics, movement and breathing in her early thirties that led to the profound personal healing and growth that was needed to move beyond trauma and begin an entirely new chapter.

As a result, Jeni retrained as a body and breathing therapist nearly a decade ago, in order to share this work by directly supporting people experiencing trauma and the many physical health complications that often accompany chronic stress.

Jeni has over 1,000 hours of training in somatic modalities including Advanced Integrated Myofascial Therapy (including specialist training in jaw, pelvic health and scar therapy), Trauma-Informed Practice, Breathing Therapy, Energy Healing, and Holistic and Deep Massage, from institutions including the Massage Training Institute, The Lauterstein-Conway School, Oxygen Advantage, and Myofascial Release UK.

More recently, she has built on her early love of story and her first career as a communications professional by training as a storyteller in the oral tradition, both to support her therapeutic work with clients, to support communities, and to share the deep power and potential of stories with communications professionals and ethical businesses (in order to inform, inspire and enhance their work).

Jeni loves the relational experience of working deeply with people on a one to one basis, as well as with small groups. Her greatest joy is in witnessing people come into an experience of their own creative potential and power.
